Funny story this week, aside from our sump pump exploding, I was hoping for a boring week.  Nope, my lovely editor found a possible plot hole after one quick read that I'm moving to patch up before anyone notices.  Thankfully, its not a serious issue with the overall structure, I just left a thread dangling pretty badly and that needs fixed prior to release.  I know you guys all want shorter books, but this will probably add a c...

Second Draft is finished

I finished the first draft about 2 weeks ago.  After that, I go through the book using a text to speech app so I can experience it in a different fashion and update as needed to get the book ready for my editor to go through it.  

So far my Alpha readers really like it and I'm quite comfortable with how the storyline progressed.  There are a few minor updates I might make shifting a bit of content to Book 8, but I'll play ...

So halfway done with the spit and polish

After your first draft, the next thing you need to do is go through the book once and figure out what you meant when you were writing it.  I'm at that process now, carefully correcting a host of minor issues where things were clear enough while I was writing it but certainly not clear now.  After I get finished with that (hopefully by the end of next week) I get to hand it off to the editor so she can start the process of turning it ...

First Draft DONE

123k words, Finished 2/28 at midnight central time.  So it counts.  I actually hit a deadline.  I'm proud of myself.  

First draft completed, that means I get to read the thing tomorrow and start figuring out what I did wrong and how to improve it.  Next two weeks will be spent editing the book before I give it over to the editor for actual editing.  

We call this the 'glaring errors' phase.  

120k Words!... and to no one's surprise...

I'm not quite done yet.  I will have it done next week though.  I had to spruce up the ending some and that means more wordcount.  The good news is that I'm expanding it because I'm really liking how the end battle of Book 7 is going.  I really think it really wraps up a bunch of plot points and sets up new ones.  

So I'm expecting the first draft word count to hit around 125k or so, and it will expand during the...

At the middle point of the final act of Book 7, Tower of the Noobs.  The first draft at any rate.    I'm right before the final battle and I can't wait to write it. 

When I write, I come up with scenes early and then write to them.  There are plenty of fun points on the journey, but all of the build up is to a few key moments and Book 7 has one of scenes that I have been envisioning since I wrote up my initi...

Act 3 is a go

I'm 90K + words in and the book is looking solid.  Act 2 might need a bit of fluffing but I doubt anyone would mind if I included more words.  

In the meantime, I'm setting up the awesome ending of this book for the awesome setup of the next one.  My 20k words a week drained me emotionally to the point where I was just staring at the wall trying to come up with stuff.  Now that I'm back down to 10k a week, I'm much mo...

Act 2 is Completed

I'm still to outline, which is interesting as I've usually gone totally off the rails by now.  I mean, I went off the rails a bit but I got back on course before anything seriously went wrong.  I might need to fluff a chapter in act 2 a bit, but I'm very happy with the story elements, and I doubt you guys will complain if I add in a few more words.

Week 2, or Apparently 20k words a week is a bit excessive

Wow.  I burned out hard on the second week only managing about 12k words.  Still much better than the 5k I was doing pre fulltime authoring but not nearly as many as I was hoping.  Reviewing, its the normal stuff like I can't sit in front of a computer that long every day and get anything that's good quality.  Flip side is that the smaller quantity I produced is pretty solid.  

So I'm reevaluating my goals trying...

1st week of professional authorhood

So I managed another 20k this week after an enormous amount of trials and tribulations.  I'm not sure if I can maintain that pace forever, but a consistent15k is certainly within the realm of possibility.  

It's looking like Monday is a fluff day.  Those are where you go over the last weeks work, wonder what the heck you were thinking and fluff out portions so they make sense to ...

I am officially a full time author

My last day was Friday, and now I get to devote full time to writing and no time to anything else.  Well, maybe RPG's.  Actually I might start up a second game because I'll have the free time.  

I'm increasing my word count to 20k a week, hopefully.  Realistically I'm shooting for 15k but I'm the kind of writer who needs to have a goal that's too high that I can miss but still come close to.  

We shall see ...

Waiting on Audiobooks (April 19th is release date)

So I don't have any concrete info on the audiobook at this time, which is a disappointment to everybody.  Especially Badgelor, who likes the stories of Badgelor and his sidekick Jim to be out ASAP.

Meanwhile, I'm planning on getting more work done including the incredible adventures of Professor Badgington, one of the professors at the Zentarim Academy.  His is a tragic story about a man that was changed into a giant badger man...

20K word week

So I'm up to 20k words this week, pushing The Tower of Noobs (maybe) to 35k words.  Man, having a week off from work lets me get in way more writing than normal.  I'm usually pushing 5k words a week.  

Happy New Year to everyone.  I'm working on pushing out 2 more Noobtown books this year and we'll see what happens after that.

I, on the other hand, am busy writing book 7.  Progress is always slow around the holidays but I'll get back into full swing at the first of the year.  I'm hoping to have the first draft out by late February, but I suck at deadlines so we'll see.  Not sure when I'm going to start posting ch...
