So I botched the Pre-Order

Rolled double 1's.  Very disappointing.

Book Six, Nautical Noobs,  is coming out on THURSDAY of this week.  The 9th.  

Basically, I thought I had pre-built the pre-order and I pre-didn't which prevented the pre-published work from pre-forming as prescribed.  It's a pre-blem.  There is no fixing it at this point so I'm just going to release book 6 on Thursday.

So what does finishing a noobtown book look like?

Sarah, my wife and editor is busily cracking away on book 6.  She's in the finale right now and is just about done for the night.  As of right now, we have 66 more pages to go.  

After she is done I have to do a stat check, my 'favorite' part.  That's where I go through the whole book and make sure all the numbers match up.  That takes about 8 hours, and at this point is mainly double checking everything against ...

Book 6 is down to the last 78 pages.  This weekend I'm going to get a pre-order setup which should be fun.  When the book actually releases I have to take ALL the Book 6 chapters down per my Amazon agreement so that's the hidden signal that its about to happen.  

How's the Editing Going?

Pretty well, actually.  So I of course suspect a trap.  In total, every single time I've gotten in stride to finish the book some horrible thing happens and everything goes tits up on me.  At this point, I'm actually thinking that we are going to hit the proposed date next month.  I'm holding off on mentioning the actual date because every single time I put it to paper something really bad happens.

Stuff I'm reading

So between editing, revising a few points in the last draft, and tinkering with my latest book I've come to a conclusion.  Don't work in healthcare during a pandemic.  But book is still progressing and that's the important bit.  

I just got to edit one of my favorite chapters in all of my books, but it will be published before it ever pops up here and I don't want to give it away.  Must Resist!  I think its going...

No Toasty this week

Major writers block coupled with lots of editing have stopped my progress on the Toasty story.  I'll resume next week after my batteries recharge.

So my book is being edited, a process that takes weeks, and I'm bored... so as I was driving across Ohio I realized a hilarious idea for a serial story involving a toaster.  This is a scifi story for Vella that isn't impacting my book 6 writing.  I'll throw up a few chapters of it and see how they do while I get ready to work on Book 7.

Its a Newsletter for August.  

Second Draft

COMPLETED.  Now letting the Alpha's chew on it to see if it fixed the problem's in the first draft.  Hint, I think it does.  Love the ending.  So good.  I'm riding the a draft is done high, so this is all going to be how awesome I am.  So many hours writing and I think it is doing great for this stage of the work.  

Note: Editing takes forever but chapter a week until it comes out.

Book is entering into the final phase

I'm up to 127k words and the final two chapters (maybe 3).  After that the book just needs edited and I think we are game.  Phew.  I am just about to start really thinking about book 7.  

Estimated word count is going to be something like 140k (give or take)  So we are back to the original book length I had for book 6.  

So the book is going to be longer than I though

I know you are all broken up about that.  I had so many good scenes that I couldn't legitimately remove any of them, and I just had to expand the word count to cover them.  I'm expecting to have this done and over to the editor in a week or two.  Then I'll take a break... by starting book 7 while she goes through it.  

Nearly Ready for the MERGE (of Doom)

I've rewritten the front of the book, fixed the plotting issues there and now all I have to do is merge the second half of the book back onto it and boom... we got a novel.  Mind you, tons of rewrites will be required to get everything up to snuff, but I'm marching towards the destination and I can't wait to get there.  

Figured out the problems, progress is going well

I just needed to step back to review the story to see what was going right and what was going wrong with the book.  Ultimately, the issue wasn't that the writing was bad, or that it wasn't engaging on some level.  The issue was that the plot wasn't holding anyone's attention.  Now it does, and I just need to write enough of a bridge to snap the front and back of the book together.

Rewrites ahoy

So my alpha readers are saints.  Saints who tell me bad news with a smile.  Okay who tell me bad news.  Mostly bad news.  

So my first draft of Book6 leaves quite a bit to be desired.  I'm seeing some serious structural errors in the mix which means I'm at full damage control mode like I haven't seen since book 3 (castle).  Flip side, I do better in rewrites and Castle is nominally a pretty decent book. &nbs...

I survived the Big Easy.

Good news, my liver works.  Worse news, I think I drunk just about all of the alcohol in New Orleans.  I vaguely recall that I was writing a book, but in my drunken haze I had a realization and will have to rewrite a few bits of book 6.  Now if I could only remember what the realization was.

Well, sometimes I have to travel for my work and this is one of those weeks.  I'm busy finishing up Book 6, and several days here will recharge my batteries, probably.  I mean, its just New Orleans... what else is there to do around here?

Noob Game Plus Audiobook

Its not called the Noobiest Noob in all of Noobtown, even though that was my editors preference.  If I ever do an expanded edition, It might be the noobiest edition however.  The audio book is releasing on the 25th and its AWESOME.  Much respect to Jonathan for of his great narration.

Crushing it

So I've had two 5k word days recently as I've managed to flush out the ending of the book, setup book 7, and get this thing nearly done.  I'm really satisfied with how book 6 is rolling out and the word count is getting up there.  I'm over 100k now, and probably will be up to 110k (give or take) when I'm ready to publish.  I don't have a publishing date yet, but I'm confident in Summer release.   I hope to be all the w...

My original outline for book 6 included a bit of time on a boat, followed by some time in town, followed by more time in a boat.  However, as I began to write the story, I found out that I missed Windfall and that section kept expanding more and more.  Now I'm at the point that the first half of the story has enough material that it is a complete story by itself.
