Chapter 35, the retconning.
As I stepped back into natural light for the first time in hours I looked around to the lovely river before me, and below me. Well below me. I was about forty feet in the air in a tunnel...

2023-04-08 04:47:46 +0000 UTC View PostOr, why aren't you working on noobtown?
Writer's block mainly. I have a beginning (done), a middle (done, and an end (working on it) but the connective tissues between the middle and the end were annoying the crap out of me so I slowed down to a crawl trying to get them in and up to standard.
So I stopped. I'm taking 2 weeks off of noobtown and working on another project which brings me to the 10k a day challenge.
“So t

Like an intelligent person.
“Anyway, I owed you one,” I continued.
“Like hell you do,” said John handing me a sports d...
2023-03-30 05:04:26 +0000 UTC View PostBack to noobtown and I'm getting the notes together for a new book. Noobtown has crossed the 120k word spot and is moving closer to the 150k or so I typically do for a noobtown story. I've got the false finale setup, now all I need to do is move the action back into Windfall for the final stretch. That gives me about 15k words to play with before the final act.
Noobtown chapters will start being posted AFTER I get throu...

One bad roll catapults a group of friends into a new world...

Together, the party must join forces to deal with the vile Necrolord whose plans will not on...
Glory to Badgelor, my favorite little rabid snacker. He's always fun to write for, especially when I get to have him suplex something. Of course, Kaiju Badgelor's suplexes are world shaking, but that's what you get in the 8th book in a series.
Now I'm off to getting more of the third act setup. Its going to be a healthy length, and I've finished the first third. The second third is the rising action, where ...
2023-03-19 22:53:41 +0000 UTC View PostSo I submitted the first draft of fifth era over to Aethon's editor. She loved it, of course, but also finished the edits in like 3 days meaning I'm supposed to get back to it and work on it.
So I'm bouncing over there for a bit to finish up that book before I wriggle over to Noobtown again. Trying to write funny war stuff is tricky, so I'm tending to have very dark scenes bookended by humorous bits.
I'm a...
2023-03-12 23:03:49 +0000 UTC View PostSo eventually you have to reread everything to get it back on track and then you do and everything starts getting better. Jim and Charles are having a polite discussion about the merits of physics as applied to ones skull, Shart is drinking and Badgelor has a new friend to play with.
Now I just have to get through a few more plot points until the finale, and I have an idea for a great For Johnathan chapter. I think our narrat...
2023-03-05 23:48:01 +0000 UTC View PostI was hoping to crack 100k words this week, but it looks like that's next week's goal. I've managed to get a number of key scenes tightened down and added a bunch of content in the middle to setup the third act of this book though.
I think I have everything in order now to get act three properly done, with the emotional gravitas it deserves. Also Badgelor getting shot off of a catapult.

2023-02-26 23:42:06 +0000 UTC View PostSo about half way to two thirds of the way through my books i typically realize that I botched something earlier. I missed a plot point, or I came up with something that expanded my outline and feel like exploring it. Then I have to go back and rewrite.
I'm at that point now, realizing I setup a section with Jim poorly and didn't really put in enough detail to really fit the scene. Now I'm going back to build that up su...
2023-02-19 23:57:08 +0000 UTC View PostI write for scenes. I have glorious scenes plotted out in my head, and everything is just moving towards or away from that point. This week I got to write the scene for one of the characters I plotted out when I introduced them as one of the high points of their character arc. It was glorious.
And I got over 10k words written, so I'm over 80k. That's also great. That scene ends the second act of the s...

Noobtown 8 progressed through the start and middle of the second Act. I'm setting the stage for the final action of this arc of the story and so far it is shaping up to be quite impressive.
Right now I'm mainly waiting for several scenes to occur that I initially though of when I started writing Noobtown several years ago. I envison scenes of particular note and then steer my stories towards them.

2023-02-05 23:53:09 +0000 UTC View PostSo I am a big fan of the 3 act structure and Noobtown is broken into 3 acts. The first act is done (99% unless I see something neat to add) and then there are the other two acts.
I'm working on act 2 presently and am about 20% done with it. I realized this week, after I wrote a bunch of stuff, that I was shifting back into a single person POV and decided to tie in The Mayor's and The Dark Overlord's preparation for the...

2023-01-22 23:53:09 +0000 UTC View PostSo I reviewed my manuscript for Fifth Era Number 2, in preparation for sending it off to the editors for over 30 hours last week. Always a good, if really boring and time consuming, time. Turns out I have two basic modes, which is editing and writing.
