No Chapter This week
Added 2023-01-15 23:49:26 +0000 UTCSo I reviewed my manuscript for Fifth Era Number 2, in preparation for sending it off to the editors for over 30 hours last week. Always a good, if really boring and time consuming, time. Turns out I have two basic modes, which is editing and writing.
When I write/edit it is an enormously high focus activity and by the time I'm done for the day, I'm usually done doing pretty much everything else too. It annoys my wife because I usually only write 2 hours in the morning and 2 hours before I go to bed... 7 days a week. I flip between absolute focus and watching youtube in a method I like to describe as 'only works for an author'.
When I start writing, I have tons of ideas and I have to isolate some of those down to a page, while taking notes on the rest of those ideas for future works. The header of any of my working novels if chalk full of partial ideas and scenes. Worse yet, when I get back to Noobtown 8, sitting at 40k words presently, I'll have to take all the notes I have for it and review what I've written to get all the newer/better ideas incorporated.
When I edit is is a whole different experience. It takes forever and I end up pouring over what I've already written wondering if it is good enough or just crap. In my mind, nothing is ever good enough for the audience, but if I polish it enough what comes out come out pretty well. The fun part is the line where I'm reading something and it starts changing from fan fiction to something an actual author might write.
In any case, a week of editing has put me into a bad headspace for writing new things. I know this because I tried, twice. Woof. I'm not going to say they are the worst things I've ever read, I did read the first draft of Castle after all, but they are not good enough to share by any measure.
Upshot is next week I'm officially starting back on Noobtown 8. That's going to put me back into Noobtown mode where I'm wondering what all the characters are up too. Ultimately, I'm trying to get words on a page but I'll have more than enough left over to share with you guys.
