“Time’s wasting let's do this outside. I don't want to ruin any more of my new floor tiles,” I said, glancing side-eyed at a blissfully ignorant Dalton before standing and creating another portal so it exited outside of the castle while restoring the portal to the town.
With my triple portal, you could walk between one and appear at either of the others if you were focusing on the destination.
“Dum Dum, did you f...

“No support,” mouthed Lady Sylanada as she looked onto the mass of goblins covering the entire bridge. “Elves can handle a few goblins?” She shook her head, there were warrens of goblins coming towards her measly defenders. She had asked for mobile forces in case of issues with the bridge, in fact she had asked for more soldiers earlier today but was informed that everything was tight due to the troubles....

Chapter 33 - Throne Room
The Falconians in the audience chamber looked at each other uncomfortably. With no place to sit, they were all forced to stand like underlings until I dismissed them. I was flexing my powers as Mayor and they couldn’t do much about that, but my power wasn’t absolute. While I needed their help, I was done giving up my dignity to get it.
Many of the tales of the Mayor and his power began...

Intermission: The Auction
Dedaren, the Splendiferous, strode up the tall stairs to the auction house brushing past those li-tel around him. While most of their desire to get out of his way came from his BDE, at least some was from his massive shoulders. His massive, uncovered shoulders because one of the king’s agents had burned his cloak.
Exhaling, the elven druid tried to keep focus. He was walking aro...

“The Mayor of Windfall,” chuckled the Dark Overlord. “He isn’t here, but who might you be?”
“HarCharles,” gasped the youth, who was currently suspended over the railing of the topmost floor of the Castle of Lions. Current topmost floor. Charles never liked the observatory anyway.
The Dark Overlord chuckled and flung the lad into a nearby wall with bone crushing force. The youth slid down and didn’t ...

“Quatax and Forenth don’t count, they were both unconscious when Shade pulled them away,” I said unhappily as we reached the buggy.
“But I only moved back a little,” moaned Zorg, horribly over encumbered Zorg.
Hurkle grunted.
“At least the ranger can take it like an elf,” I said, grumpily as we finally got back into the clearing around the fortress. Zorg continued to whine and Forenth groaned ...

Light, pain light, streamed in from a crack in the window shade. I inhaled sharply, and regretted it. My ribs were bruised, so was everything else. I slowly got to my feet, spotting the girls sleeping together in a pile.
Not a sexy pile, just an unconscious pair of elves in a pile. They were not sexy, I thought as I stumbled towards the door leaving the horrible costume there. Except for the hat...

I walked back over to the town square without a care in the world, and I didn’t pay one bit of attention to my hangers on. All two hundred of them. Arranged behind me like some sort of off kilter cosplayers, was the majority of the Falconian Royal family, and they wanted to talk.
Of course, just acknowledging them would be losing the first point in the upcoming conflict so I walked in silence while they waited fo...

We got to Talimor’s just before the contests started. Talimor’s grand reopening was due to the previous restaurant being destroyed recently for an unknown reason. Apparently it had spontaneously exploded. No one would tell me why, but I wasn’t expecting a gas leak.
Talimor, the owner for the past 600 years, spared no expense in rebuilding the place. He hired a group of druids to rapidly grow a g...

“I don’t know, I think this is about as good as it gets with him,” said Vicky. She was talking fast, fast enough that my speech skill shard was having issues. If I hadn’t been picking up the elven language in bits and pieces I might have missed some of that.
Aria wasn’t helping.
“If we are going to get in, he’s going to need to go to a groomer,” she said as we reached the new plaza.

Within 10 seconds of my return Mar and Blots had raced through the open door to my office to stare at me. I waved.
“I never thought I’d say this, but I missed you,” said Mar.
Sadly, I kind of missed him too. Our relationship was an odd one, but it was one of the few constants I had on Ordinal. Blots looked like he was about to burst.
“Mayor, I’d like to ask you something,” he began.
“Of c...

I wasn’t sure what bothered me more. The fact that there was a portal to super hell just a few miles from Windfall that could have disgorged unholy abominations that could destroy the world at any time, or the fact that it never had.
“I lived in terror of this place,” I said, remember the palpable energy of terror that flowed from the cave.
“That was the point,” said Bashara walking past me and looking at the v...

Now that I had a better understanding of how the elven city worked, finding things got a lot easier. They didn’t use streets, those were dangerous, they had garden plazas that were used for navigation. Finding those plazas was tricky for an outsider, though most elves understood the general placement of everything based on some racial knowledge that I wasn't a party to.
Fortunately we had a trick.
“I am...

I woke up early, for an adventurer. That was to say, I woke up at the crack of nine and hopped out of my less impressive bed. The forest air flowed into the room from the broad, open door leading to the balcony.
Common adventurers shared a communal sleeping hall on the second floor of the residential wing. Most adventurers declined to stay here, instead finding other rooms either in town or with other adven...

The last mile was spent running through a destroyed wasteland. All of the trees were down, and the skies were… well, a shadow filled nightmare.
Badgelor was surrounded by two dead behir, ghastly wounds covering both. One of the massive creatures twitched as I approached, but a blast of plasma to the creature’s unprotected belly silenced it. I doubted it would have been much of an issue, though I was curio...

King Rogen walked through the illustrious halls of the great citadel taking a long moment to examine the spire of magic that hovered majestically over his city. For any other kingdom, the spire of magic would have been the centerpiece of their magical defenses, or perhaps a center of learning.
Rogen ordered it abandoned ever since his ex left him. That was her home, and he hated that place. He visited it on...

Shade popped up after a few minutes. His essence had been massively disrupted by the bugbear, but when it recovered he was his usual chipper self.

Despite my burn since ...

“The general will return,” said Honroar as the remaining war badgers all relaxed as much as they dared.
There were only nine left. If Badgelor had been alone he would have collapsed, it was only the fact that they looked up to him that was keeping him even marginally sane.
How would Jim manage this?
The human wasn’t smart, strong, or generally useful most of the time but he was usually able to ...

All that ever happened to him was pain. As a goblin that was to be expected, but he wasn’t a goblin anymore. Those adventures weren’t content to kill him, they wanted him to suffer. He was afraid, for the first time ever. Goblins didn’t get afraid, could get a...

The shade flinched examining the two holes in her chest. She learned new things about War Badgers, they would not leave anyone behind, but you could grab one if you were really dedicated to the bit. She’d managed to steal one of the young war badger cubs, they were small and easy to carry.
Also, they were protected by several very angry War Badgers. Also, all of the other cubs. Her quick snatch and grab tur...

The traffic in the city was terrible, that seemed to be a constant that never changed no matter what district we went to. Gloria did not care, she drove like a linebacker with his scholarship on the line the entire time. I counted no fewer than twelve impacts with another buggy as we tore out of town.
Or as I would later call it, the pleasant part of the trip.

She could have just left. That would have been too simple though, and she didn’t like leaving things alone.
And of course, the foe.
After the first behir, she had to find more. Well, she had gone towards the exit mainly to see where it was and what to do with it. There was a cave, it was mentioned in the stories as some sort of storehouse for Grebthar’s special experiments. The fact that there...

Lady Domagal, the System Lord’s eyes narrowed to two tiny prick, tiny glowing pricks, where she sat on her throne in the great Tree, the ancestral home of the Elven System Lord. From here she could look down on Dominus and the fortress of the king in full knowledge of her absolute control of the elves, a place where nothing happened without her express permission.
“Please repeat that, I must have misheard you.”

“This was a good day,” thought the shadow when she spotted the army sulking along. It wasn’t often that you saw an army moving down here, let alone a living one. A living army couldn't exist here for very long so they must be leaving. They were moving in a tight column towards somewhere, and she needed to find out where that was. That meant they were trying to escape, and if they could get out so could she.
