Enamour NYD Closing @ Flash DC Rooftop - Jan 1, 2023

Hey Everyone,

Here's my closing set from the 33 hour party at Flash in DC on NYE/NYD. I played right after Jovonn, who was playing a lot of classic and soulful house. It was a fun challenge to try to quickly change the vibe as smooth as possible to the direction I wanted to take it. The set ends a bit abruptly because we moved the party into the main room after some noise complaints.

I dropped two patron IDs as well, from Snowedin ...

Studio Feed: Starting from Scratch #6 Pt. 9

Hey Everyone, back one more time for this demo. I start with automating the bass throughout the arrangement for more character and excitement. Then there's a ton of random little changes like finessing automation, sending various elements to my Aux reverb and delays at different moments, small mix adjustments, fine tuning transitions, intro, outro, etc.

I have gone in since for additional mix changes. After playing on other systems and i...

Studio Feed: Starting from Scratch #6 Pt. 8

Hey Everyone, back again with this demo.

I start off by turning the background bells into a transitional element at certain points in the song using Shifter. This is a nice little example of how using processing chains (or single fx) can help temporarily transform an existing element into a build up/transitional tool. I then continue finessing this transition, adding reverbed kick and other small adjustments.

Next I start messing w...

Hey Everyone, continuing on with this track, starting by adjusting the mixdown on my headphones (I've got SoundID on for a bit FYI - the Sennheiser 650 profile). I like to switch back and forth between monitors and headphones at various times throughout the production process...not a ton of rhyme or reason to it but just a nice mix of both. Usually the initial creation is best with monitors and then for more detailed mixdown or ear candy the h...

Studio Feed: Starting from Scratch #6 Pt. 6

Hey Everyone, back with the next video for what I think I'm gonna call "Good For Me". Starting off here by replacing the lead arp with a new patch. I quickly happen upon a solid preset as a starting point and tame it a little bit to be more clean and tonal so it's appropriate for the melody. Around 9 minutes, I separate the bottom (left hand) drone/bass note from the arp pattern to a new channel and then adjust the melody on the melody channel...

Studio Feed: Starting from Scratch #6 Pt. 5

Hey Everyone, back onto this WIP after a couple months off. The break was mostly because of my cross-country move, the holidays, etc. but I also saw that this one had some good potential yet it wasn't quite clicking in the first couple sessions. For me that usually means some extended time off is needed to come back with truly fresh ears and perspective.

My new monitors/room allowed me to hear a bit more of what was going on so I started...

Thinking Outside The Box (In The Box) #7

Hey Everyone, back with the next video in this series and again, it was spurred during a session on a new track. Just a quick one showing you how Auto-Pan can be used more creatively and hopefully get you thinking a little bit about the math behind the music and where else you can apply it. Attaching the Note to Hz conversion chart I use.

White Lotus Theme Remix Walkthrough

Hey Everyone, here's the walkthrough of my bootleg of The White Lotus theme song. I used an AI stem splitter to get 4 rough stems of the track to work with, and I also used the full song for the breakdowns and other little bits and fills. This required some surgical processing and working in audio--the rest was fairly straightforward.

Healer Walkthrough

Hey Everyone, I meant to post this a while back for posterity even though it's on my YouTube channel. Definitely check it out if you haven't yet--some really good insights on using/mixing vocals, among many other things. A lot went into this track!

Studio Feed: Starting from Scratch #7. Pt 2

Hey Everyone,

Picking up where I left off in the last video, I start by really finessing the main build-up/transition into the drop by using a resampling technique. I then mess around with a few other ideas that may or may not make the final cut. Finally, I start working on the final build/outro, which it seems will be more percussive than melodic.

Studio Feed: Starting from Scratch #7. Pt 1

Hey Everyone,

Before going too much further on the track from the "Messing with Velocity" video, I started recording. This session is a great demo of taking a 32 bar loop to full arrangement, among other things.

I start by demo-ing/adjusting some of the other sounds in the track and working on a potential breakdown/alternate drop idea (not sure it's gonna end up in the final version though). I then start to fill out the arran...

Messing with Velocity (in Diva)

Hey Everyone,

Here's a short video on how I'm using Velocity to add a lot of character and liveliness to a synth in Diva, as well pushing the modulation to extremes to develop the lead for other uses in the song. The tips apply to any synth but I particularly like Diva because of it's straightforward modulation capabilities (vs. infinite or extremely limited possibilities of other synths).

There's also some other random quick tips ...

Mind Blowing Holiday Stuffing

Hey Everyone, this year I made stuffing for my Thanksgiving potluck and it was such a huge hit I figured I had to share the recipe with you all. It's adapted from a few different recipes with my own spin. Enjoy!

Ingredients:

  • 1 box of fresh croissants, torn into 1 to 3 inch chunks (usually 14.5oz box, found in your grocery store fresh bakery aisle)
  • ~1lb fresh sourdough loaf View Post

Frequently Given Feedback #6 - Sidechain Compression

Hey Everyone, back with another FGF--this time on sidechain compression and how I use it to mix my lowend (kick, bass, sometimes toms) with my specific settings and EQ technique. I also show how I use Trackspacer for the same purpose, as well as similar techniques like ducking midrange elements for vocals.

Exclusive Track - Merrin Karras - Elevate (Enamour Bootleg)

Hey everyone, here is the next exclusive, unreleased track for Patrons only. This one is a bootleg I made of an electronica track that I love from Merrian Karras (Chymera's ambient alias). The original track is mostly untouched--I just added the drums, fx, changed the arrangement slightly, and mixed it for the club.

I encourage you guys to explore beatless music (ambient, electronica, etc.) for inspiration as well as editing/remixing the...

Frequently Given Feedback #5 - Chill on the EQ!

Hey Everyone, back with another FGF--this time on EQ! I frequently find myself recommending less EQ...a majority of the time it's just to low cutting less and with a more gradual slope. In the video, I cover a few other recommendations and the reasons behind them.

NOTE: Don't freak out if you don't have an EQ that does Linear Phase--you're probably fine. I'm just explaining some of these points in the video for those that may have run in...

Studio Feed: Starting from Scratch #6 Pt. 4

Hey Everyone, continuing on with this demo, this time mostly refining the main verse, the build-into-drop moment, and enhancing the drums. I don't always work in this order but for the concept of this track, I thought it was important to really nail the breakdown and drop before going too much further on arranging the track. Around 47:00 I start developing the outro and earlier verse.

At 1:11:00 I test out a more minimal drop without all...

Studio Feed: Starting from Scratch #6 Pt. 3

Hey Everyone, continuing on this project--now trying to work on a concept for the build and drop. For the first 25 minutes I experiment with some different ideas and land on a pretty nasty synth riff that's almost acting as a B-section or one-time moment for the song. I then start adding some different drum parts to enhance that section.

This is a cool example of how your drop can be something totally different if you'r e just going for ...

Protege Feedback Livestream - 10/26/22

Here is the recording from yesterday's feedback livestream. Going forward I think I'm going to start doing two sessions per month (same week or back-to-back days) but you can only submit for one day (though you can join both to spectate). This way the sessions are a bit shorter and more manageable.

I'll be sending a doodle for best days/times next week once we've got some a few members off the waitlist in November

Studio Feed: Starting from Scratch #6 Pt. 2

Hey Everyone,

This next session starts with me adding some drum parts to give the track a bit more of a call and response groove and extending the overall pattern. I then continue messing with the vocal, pushing the Texture warp mode to its limits to create a glitchy effect. Around 15:00 I start exploring additional background elements. Then I extend the loop and start placing the vocal into the arrangement.

Around 30 minutes...
