Creepy mermaid 🌚✨// step by step

Hi patrons!

I finished a new illustration this morning ✨ so here's a step by step breakdown for you!

 Materials ✦

✦ Fist sketch with the prismacolor pencil and then inks! ✦

✦  Quick color tests with procreate  ✦

 ✦ First watercolor layer ✦

  ✦ Second watercolor layer ✦

✦ Third watercolor layer, to add even more depth and shadows ✦ I was extremely patient with this drawing, I usually never really let the layers dry completely before continuing painting and that sometimes affect the final result. Layering is super important to have nice colors and cool effects with watercolors, so I'm learning to be more patient and take my time!

✦ Painted the hair with a darker blue ✦

✦  Now the face and I peeled off the masking fluid on the leaves  ✦

Gouache time! all the highlights were done mixing white gouache with a little bit of yellow and white with a little bit of blue

✦  And the final touches: Copic Markers!  ✦  for this piece, I used copic markers to make some variations on the general tones. Specially on the water and the leaves.

Notice how the water gets warmer on the top, that's just a light yellow copic! The difference on the tones between some of the leaves are also done with the YG95 marker. To make this trick work, make sure your watercolor base is very light, and the alcohol marker you chose is a bit saturated. Otherwise, the copic won't affect the watercolors too much if the layer is too dark.

✦  Final image with color correction  ✦

Hope you like it and find it useful! Have a wonderful week ahead,

talk to you soon! ✨🌺
