Blue witch // Acryla gouache step by step β˜„οΈπŸŒΏ

Hey guys!!

Here's a little break down on my second attempt using acryla gouache. Just a heads up, I'm still struggling quite a bit with this medium so most of the time I'm really not sure what I'm doing heh.

I'm using my Moleskine sketchbook because although I love Mossery paper I'm just too used to paint on a smoother surface. Okay, let's start!

🌻 First sketch using my always trusty Prismacolor Col-erase, scarlet red

🌻 For the lineart I used a Copic multiliner color Wine, just to experiment a bit. Gouache is very opaque and most of the lines will end up covered anyways (which for me I guess that's the worst part, since I'm the type of artist who just can't do lineless art)

🌻 First layer of colors, here I'm just mixing some colors and layering them on the paper, constantly wondering what works and what doesn't. I was trying to preserve the lineart as much as I could

🌻 And here I just realized it was impossible to fight with acryla gouache opacity so I just embraced solid colors and shapes.

🌻 No matter how much I try, I just can't do lineart with paint and a brush like most artists would probably do. When using pens, I normally have to make A LOT of pressure to have nice, controllable lines and I can't do that with a brush, so my lines end up being very very shaky. SO I used colored pencils for the first time in a long time for lineart and I truly loved it. They work so so so well with gouache

🌻 I finally started to feel the drawing coming along once I started adding details with pencils. I used Prismacolors, I had only 8 colors I bought a long ago and never really used until this day :')

🌻 Struggled again with the eyes, big time. The expression ended up looking nothing like in the sketch but at this point I just knew I was going to do some polishing digitally.

🌻 Finished!

And here's the clean up/edit version! Most of the finishing touches were in the eyes and the nose to make them a lot more defined. And some color correction as well, of course. I'm happy to say I kinda liked the result ✨

I hope you enjoyed this! Let me know guys your thoughts on acryla gouache, have you used this medium?!

I have a lot of recorded material to edit, so I hope to put together a video soon!

Sending you guys all my love and eternal gratitude for your support πŸ’– hope you have a fantastic week ahead!
