Testing some new Kuretake products ✨

I'm back to share with you some new art I did recently 🌻 a few days ago I received a package form Kuretake with some new art supplies to try out, they asked me to make a couple of posts on my IG using them. I've always been very fan of everything Kuretake so I was very very excited for this collaboration! 

One of the products I have to use are the Zig Clean Color real brush, which are water based, which means they are like watercolor markers !

I think the last time I used a water based marker was in school, so I had this misconception that they peel off the paper when you layer them or that they are not very friendly, and the truth is, these are great, you can use them for solid colors or you can dilute them with a bit of water to create some really nice effects. 

Also the brush tip is made of bristles so it feels like a real brush! 

I'm not sure if there're more brushes like these ones but they do feel like a pretty unique product. I did a swatch sheet right away, there're some veryyyy vibrant colors, I like them

One thing though, they work well as watercolors only if you're using a good watercolor paper, they don't seem to work really well on my regular Moleskine sketchbook, for example. 

I tried to do some illustrations but unfortunately, I'm not very happy with the results. I think it's because I'm trying to use these brushes the same way I use watercolors or alcohol markers, and they are neither of those two things. So it's a bit tricky, I don't think I got the hang of them yet. But it could also be because my ideas for the drawings/compositions were meh, and maybe that's what's truly bothering me 😅

Anyways, here're a couple of pictures, I'm not sure if I'll ever post these, I feel I can pull out something a bit nicer, but we'll see :)

Layering the colors is the hardest part ! For the lineart I used a sepia Copic multiliner, I thought it would a nice touch to not to use pure black this time, but mhmm not sure.  

Another attempt:

I wanted to use only the Kuretake brushes, but these drawings are screaming to me to use gouache and add more details on top haha but no, I won't. I want to keep it simple, I just need to keep playing around until I feel more happy with the outcome.

I did another drawing that, luckily, I like a bit more. Still not a masterpiece, but at least colors look a bit more interesting. I don't have step by step pictures of this one but I did record it, so I'll share that with you once it's edited!

The other product I have to use are the Zig Art & Graphic Twin, which are also water based markers and the difference is that they have a fine tip and flexible brush tip. They perform very similar when you add water, the color range is also very nice!

I was very surprised with these because you can BLEND them together, like if they were alcohol markers, but they are not ??? I don't know, I'm very confused haha

 I think they are great and I love I can use them to paint solid shapes on my moleskine and they don't bleed through, so it's almost like having some kind of alcohol markers that don't bleed, but also having some kind of watercolor markers you can dilute with water ? very insane. 

For the moment I'm trying to concentrate on learning to use the previous markers, so I haven't use these very much yet. 

Lastly, Kuretake was very kind to gift me a set of their alcohol markers, which I'm very fond of because Kurecolors were the very first alcohol markers I owned before getting some copics. They don't have a brush tip, but the ink is really really nice. Here's the color swatch sheet of the 36 color set, if you're curious 

(They included some other stuff as well, let me know if you're interested in me sharing those here as well, talking art supplies always makes me happy but I don't want to look like I'm trying to sell you guys Kuretake products 😂)
