Sylvie's Technique Vlog - Improving Your Footwork Using a Footwork Grid (17 Min)

Footwork is really important in Muay Thai. It's not singular, meaning there aren't choreographed steps that everyone learns and repeats; rather, everyone establishes a kind of footwork to create the balance and flow needed to carry out Muay Thai. Everyone walks with one foot in front of the other, but everyone has a particular gait... footwork is like that.

I have encountered this 3x3 floor grid in a few different places, but I never really learned or thought to use it until recently, when Kru Kin or Por. Promin demonstrated a few movements on it and it became like one of those scenes where geometry and algebra flow across the screen as the genius stares into space. I just got it all of a sudden. So I drew one in the parking area where I can shadow at home and I've been experimenting with it a lot. Lots to discover, lots I've already recognized.

Comments

This really helps. Ive gotten my footwork wrong in the aspect that I would step to the side, when making a turn, rather than step slightly diagonally behind or forward when making a turn, thus giving me more space to meet my opponent as they invade my open or closed sides

I have been asking my Kru for so long what the structure pf the footwork should be, and I couldn’t visualize it. This is the grid I was looking for, for a long time!! Thank you so much!!
