Anime Boston 2025: Hololive English JUSTICE Panel

In the world of VTubers, few organizations carry as much cachet as Hololive. The agency, which operates as an office as part of COVER Corporation, manages nearly one hundred talents worldwide between its main "hololive" label and the all-male "HoloStars" imprint. Hololive English’s newest generation, Justice, has become a force to be reckoned with within the greater VTubing space. Elizabeth Rose Bloodflame, Gigi Murin, Cecilia Immergreen, and Raora Panthera have all carved out dedicated fanbases, as nearly two million combined Rosarians, Grems, Otomos, and Chattini tune into their streams every week.

This year's Anime Boston offered fans a rare chance to catch a collaboration between the members of Justice in person, which would only be seen by the lucky few who could fit into a single panel room. The gravity of the moment wasn't lost on the Hololive fans at the convention, who began lining up as early as possible. By noon, the queue had been cut off at the entrance to the Sheraton Hotel's elevators, as capacity for the event had already been reached. The lucky few who could attend were ushered into a secondary waiting room, where folks chatted eagerly about the upcoming festivities and traded stories of their favorite moments from their oshis.

I had managed to get into the waiting room with friend and colleague, Jeremy Tauber, who was covering the event for Anime News Network. "I have to be honest," he confided in me, "I don’t know all that much about Hololive." I assured him that I'd gladly serve as a resource for the weekend and started giving a rundown of the talents who'd be performing that day. 

No Jetpacks Allowed

The panel room quickly filled after we took our seats, as the chatter grew louder and the attendees grew ever more excited for the upcoming show. A staffer at the front of the room quickly announced, “While we know you’re excited for today’s event, we have to let you know that there are to be no photos and no videos of today’s panel. Anyone found in violation of this will be asked to leave.”

A few small groans could be heard throughout the room, as folks who were looking to get clips and photos put their phones away.

The panel proper began moments later, as the music video for Justice’s debut single, Above Below, started playing on the giant screen set at the front of the room. The audience erupted in cheers and treated the video like part of an idol concert. Fans clad in happi coats and character tees shook penlights excitedly, while some busted out wotagei. All the while, folks belted out Justice’s fan chant:

“Justice! Just like that! Justice! Get, get that!”

The energy was electric, as fans grooved and bopped to the beat, cheering as each member’s spotlight lines kicked off.

The song ended with a massive wave of cheers and applause, as the four members of Justice appeared on the projected screen. Each member of the Justice introduced themself, accompanied by a pop from the crowd.

Elizabeth Rose Bloodflame was first, greeting everyone with a chipper “Lovely to see you, see you. Lovely!”

Gigi Murin took the proverbial microphone next, greeting everyone before adding, “If you don’t know who I am…,” prompting a wave of laughter. Indeed, Gigi is arguably the best-known of the group, having won “Most Chaotic VTuber” at this year’s VTuber Awards.

Cecilia Immergreen was the third to address the audience, playfully delivering her catchphrase, “Spin to Win!”

Raora Panthera was the final talent to greet everyone, offering her signature roar before welcoming everyone.

The group bantered for a few moments before Elizabeth paused, looking down at the staff member helping to host the panel. “Have you introduced yourself, wonderful host?” she asked, smiling. 

The staffer, Katie, introduced herself to applause from the audience. She waited until the cheers subsided before asking the talents’ thoughts on Boston. Bloodflame answered, chiming in with an excited “Wicked pissah!” The audience chuckled as she added, “Speaking of impressions of Boston, let’s do some Boston impressions!”

She then proceeded to deliver her best attempt at a Boston accent, “I’m gonna go to the bubblah,” she proclaimed, as the audience cackled in response. “Wicked pissah! [...] Let’s go get some Dunks!”

Gigi picked up what Elizabeth put down, as she delivered a deadpan “I love Dunkin’ Donuts.”

Spin to Win!

With the ice broken, Elizabeth looked to the audience and said, “Now it’s our turn. We’re going to ask you some questions about us!”

Cecilia joked, “You’d be the first to lose! You’d say I was from Immerland!”

Elizabeth sniped back, with “At least it’s not Great Exodia.”

A wave of chuckles arose through the room, as the group explained how things would work. The talents would ask trivia questions about themselves. If the individual answering gives a correct answer, then the talent asking the question takes a punishment, as assigned by the Batsu Wheel. On the flip side, if the person answering was incorrect, they’d have to take the punishment.

Cecilia asked the first question: “How tall are the Otomos?”

The first fan at the microphone answered with an unsure “seventeen centimeters?” This was close, but not quite correct, as Otomos are eighteen centimeters tall. The group gave this a pass, though, as it was within the margin of error. 

The Batsu Wheel stopped on “Give your best Toxic Gamer impression,” which Cecilia was eager to oblige. She unleashed some of her signature “Immerhater” energy, as she yelled “Uninstall! Uninstall! Get rekt! Skill issue,” to cheers and laughter.

Raora took the next question, asking, “How much do Chattini get paid for their work?” The person answering, a cosplayer, proudly proclaimed “Nothing!”

Gigi turned to Raora and stared, bluntly stating, “Raora, that’s messed up.”

Raora, visibly flustered, blurted out, “He’s wrong! They get two cucumbers a month!”

Though a wave of laughter arose at the exchange, it was clear that the Batsu Wheel had come for the audience as it spun. It landed on “Give your best ‘ara, ara’,” which the cosplayer delivered in a hilarious deadpan.

Elizabeth took the third question, asking, “Which Holomem did I perform my first duet with who wasn’t from my gen?”

The person answering responded with “Nerissa!” referring to Hololive Advent member Nerissa Ravencroft, who had dropped a cover of Revolutionary Girl Utena theme song Rinbu Revolution with her on May 3. This was incorrect, though, as Liz’s first duet was a cover of Queen Bee’s Mephisto, which she performed with Holostars member Banzoin Hakka in January.

The entire mood of the segment proved to be playful, as the talents traded jokes and jabs among each other, and the audience responded in turn with their own gags and remarks.

And then, it was Gigi’s turn.

Welcome to the Shoebox

At the front of the room stood an individual who went by Miki Ryouga, who quickly asked, “Gigi, can you stand on your toes? I can’t see you.”

Gigi’s model quickly shifted up on the screen, to chuckles throughout the room. She grinned as the perfect question entered her mind. “Do you like yaoi?” She asked calmly.

Ryouga responded with an excited, “Yes! Of course!”

Gigi continued her questioning. “What’s your OTP [One True Pairing]?” she inquired.

“Given!” replied the person on the mic.

Murin’s grin grew wider for a moment as she asked, “What’s my OTP?” Gigi, a self-proclaimed himejoshi with a particular affection for Granblue Fantasy’s Sandalphon, had discussed her pairings on-stream in the past. Sadly, `that would be of little help for Miki Ryouga, who stared blankly before replying with “I don’t know.”

Gigi bellowed “Punishment!” before bringing up the Batsu Wheel once more.

Both the talents and audience alike watched as the wheel spun, before settling on “bark like a dog and chase your tail.” The unfortunate recipient stared at the screen blankly for a moment before asking, “Do you want bipedal or…?” They then shook their head, replying with a tired “never mind” before dropping to all fours and barking as they chased their imaginary tail.

The final question of the round was straightforward: “Rank Justice’s arm wrestling skills, from weakest to strongest.”

A person in a happi coat stepped up to the microphone, and looked over the members of Justice. “I think the weakest was Gigi?” they answered, prompting an offended stare from Murin. “After that was Elizabeth, right?” they continued. “And I think after that it was Raora?”

Immergreen bounced giddily, a wide smile crossing her face as she asked, “And then? And then?!”

“And finally, CC at the top.” A chorus of groans arose from all the members of Justice… minus Immergreen.

Cecilia just smiled as she cheerfully proclaimed, “This is the best day of my life.”

Murin had had enough, though, as she yelled, “Punishment!” once more.

This time, the wheel landed on “Give us your most tsundere phrases.” The responder’s answer was drowned out by the crowd, who burst into cheers as they answered.

Raora was back up for the start of the next round. She paused, thinking before she asked, “What are my God Eyes used for?” The responder paused, as Panthera encouraged her, smiling as she said, “You know! You know!”

The responder shook their head and replied, “Not particularly, to be honest. I’ll take the punishment.” Their penalty was to imitate another Hololive member. They immediately perked up, imitating Koseki Bijou with an enthusiastic “This is power!”

The audience immediately roared in response, with a couple of Pebbles jumping up excitedly. Another person stepped up to the mic, hoping to avoid the batsu hammer.

Bloodflame smirked and asked, “How many song cover videos have I uploaded to my channel?”

The responder, Cody, immediately asked, “Can I call my lifeline?”

Cecilia grinned mischievously as she weighed in, “You can, but they have to do the batsu too, if you’re wrong.”

Cody conferred with his friend, before responding confidently with “Six!”

That confidence was misplaced, however, as Bloodflame had released only four covers before Anime Boston. The wheel spun while the audience watched. It landed once again on “Give your best ‘Ara, ara’,” to which Cody and his friend were happy to oblige. Cackles arose throughout the room as they delivered their over-the-top attempts.

And then, it was Gigi’s turn once more. At the microphone, an individual named Jack stood, who confidently said, “I’m ready to go.”

Murin smirked devilishly, beginning with an explanation that her question came from her December 2, 2024 stream, during which she took an Omegaverse personality quiz. “What is my Omegaverse quiz result,” she asked, pausing before adding, “And what is yours?”

A chorus of “Ohhhs” arose as Jack pondered. “I’m afraid I don’t have this knowledge,” he replied.

Gigi grinned, confidently saying, “Then I’ll assign yours! I spy, with my little eye, an Omega!”

The punishment wheel spun once more, landing on “Deliver your most cringe phrases.” Jack replied quickly with “boat goes binted,” as cheers erupted from the audience.

Murin laughed, and yelled, “Kill the part of you that cringes!”

Cecilia, trying to pitch an easy one to the audience, asked the next responder to name at least three ingredients of her favorite drink.

The individual at the microphone paused for a moment before thoughtfully answering with “Water, coffee-”

Immergreen, who famously loathes coffee, immediately cut him off. “What?!” she asked, scandalized, “How dare you?! Batsu! Batsu! Batsu!!”

The audience cackled and chanted “Coffee! Coffee!” as the wheel spun and ultimately landed on “Give your best ‘moe, moe, kyun’.” It was nearly impossible to hear the attempt over the crowd’s laughter, though they burst into cheers as a barely audible “kyun” could be heard.

Justice, Just Like That!

Katie took to the microphone for a moment, informing everyone that they were approaching the final ten minutes of the panel. The members of Justice conferred for a moment before Elizabeth proclaimed that it was time for the Lightning Round, and that they would do one final round of questions with faster answers and punishments.

The first question applied to all of Justice. Cecilia asked, “On Valentine’s Day, there was a question about the first letter we sent. What did Justice answer, and what did we use as our password?”

The person at the microphone shrugged and answered, “One, two, three, four?”

Bloodflame shook her head and replied, “Not quite. It’s eight, zero, zero, eight.”

As punishment, the responder had to deliver their best tsundere phrase, which was drowned out by the audience once again.

A woman quickly stepped up to the microphone. “My name is Elizabeth,” she happily stated.

Bloodflame flirtily responded, saying, “My name is Elizabeth, too.”

Raora asked the next question, asking, “Where do Chattini go if they need to be disciplined?”

Elizabeth, the human, replied with “The corner?” Panthera asked her to try again. “The closet!”

Bingo.

Raora took the punishment, which was to deliver her “Best oneesan phrase.” She paused, looking at the camera with a blush applied to her model, before saying, “Y-you did good today, onii-chan.”

The audience roared in cheers as a Cecilia Immergreen cosplayer draped in a German flag stepped up to the microphone. Elizabeth quickly asked, “How many unarchived karaoke streams have I done?”

The cosplayer quickly replied, “Never enough!” as a roar of cheers rang through the room. In truth, she had done twenty-eight streams, though, which Liz noted was also correct. She spun the batsu wheel. It landed on “Imitate another Hololive member.”

Bloodflame cleared her throat and began speaking in an eerily perfect imitation of Hololive MYTH member Mori Calliope. “I love League of Legends,” she cried, to the cheers of everyone in attendance.

She turned to the cosplayer and asked, “Can you give me your best Gigi?”

The cosplayer complied, replying with “OK, I’m going to talk about Teen Wolf now.”

Time was running short, as Cecilia yelled, “Spin, spin, spin! Run! RUN!”

The next person, a Dead Beat, was asked to name three things that Cecilia despised. “Coffee,” he replied, “and, um, Mario?”

“It’s True!” Cecilia replied.

“And Gigi Murin,” the Dead Beat added, to which Gigi replied with an annoyed “What?!”

The wheel spun again and landed on “bark like a dog and chase your tail” for a second time. “Bark like a real one,” Immergreen commanded, “You bark once, spin once, bark three times more.”

The Dead Beat gladly complied and received a cheerful “good boy” from Cecilia in response.

Gigi was up next, as an individual wearing four layered character happi coats walked up to the microphone. “Sing my karaoke ending song,” she challenged. The whole room suddenly burst into the opening bars to Clarity by Zedd, the song which Murin uses to end every karaoke stream. Penlights swayed in the audience, as folks lost themselves in the moment.

Gigi took the punishment, and the wheel landed on “Sing Above Below.” She belted out the first verse of the song to applause from the audience.

The final question was for the entire group: “Who’s better? Advent or Justice?”

The person at the mic quickly replied with “Justice!” Which was the only obvious answer for the panel.

For the final punishment, the members of Justice were asked to give their most tsundere phrases.

“I-it’s not like ya wicked pissah or anything!” cried Elizabeth.

“I can’t think of any,” Cecilia stated. Gigi did the same.

The person at the microphone took up the challenge for them, though, stating “OK, it’s not like this was the best panel ever, b-baka…” to cheers and whoops from the crowd.

With that last comment, though, the hour was over. The members of Justice thanked the audience and led in one final chant. 

“Justice! Just like that! Justice! Get, get that!”

Suddenly, it was over. For many, this would be a once-in-a-lifetime chance to see their oshis in their element, live onstage in a show that few would ever partake in. Different from a member stream or an unarchived presentation, this was something that lived solely in that moment. As the audience walked out of the room, one couldn’t help but smile, as the positive energy was utterly infectious. While many would meet again in stream chats that evening, for that brief moment, they were united as fans and as friends.
