Anime Herald: Where did you get the idea for the Wild Providence Oracle Deck?
Jennifer Hrabota Lesser: I’m very inspired by nature and my connection with nature. I’ve looked to nature for inspiration and as a lens to view the world. A lot of my paintings are connected with wildness and the feral aspect of us that wants to re-wild ourselves.
Anime Herald: As someone who lives with two semi-feral cats, I can appreciate that. What is your origin story as an artist?
Jennifer Hrabota Lesser: I’ve always painted. I think a lot of us artists were always drawing and painting since we’ve been young. I’m an avid reader. When I was young, I’d be inspired by the illustrations in the books I had read. Sometimes, I would try to copy them or come up with new images for the stories.
Anime Herald: Do any specific books come to mind that inspired you?
Jennifer Hrabota Lesser: All the C. S. Lewis books. The Lion, The Witch, and the Wardrobe. Those were early inspirations. But I was all over the place.
Anime Herald: How did you get connected with Illuxcon?
Jennifer Hrabota Lesser: I think I found out about it through the Illustration Master Class, the IMC, and through Smart School. I applied and I’ve enjoyed being here. It’s been amazing for me.
(Editor’s note: The Kickstarter for the Wild Providence Oracle Deck has not launched yet. She hopes to launch it later this year.)
