2023-11-17 08:14:32 +0000 UTCWhen I was younger (and closeted) I was very unfamiliar with queer culture on account of growing up in a sheltered christian home. But shortly after I met my current boyfriend we were invited to spend the weekend with his friend and her girlfriend, the first openly queer couple I had ever met. Just seeing them cohabitating unlocked something in me, let me know that alternatives to the life i felt stuck in were out there, were possible even. Without seeing that kind of relationship up close, i don't think i would've gained the insight into my own sexuality and gender I needed to come out to myself. And it was an amazing trip, we ate a lot of really good food in the city, saw a famously queer part of the city that i still remember fondly, and played some mini golf.
