If my memory serves, this was the first reaction where I tried to leave a comment but I felt awkward even trying to chat. I came back and deleted it soon after. (I'm still doing it today *sigh* ) But I wanted to come back again and leave that comment because you and the community have accepted me I feel able to say it now. My comment was... Accidental music is when you fart while running for the bus and play a melody between your cheeks. Stupid? Yes. Funny? Slightly. Worth repeating? No. My point is.. to say thanks for accepting me. Perceived volume doubles every 10db, but requires 10 times the power. Thatโs why sound systems get so large so quickly when you need concert levels. Mandy: โ90db is loud loudโ yeah - apparently we donโt perceive short sharp noises as loud as a continuous noise, even when theyโre the same decibel loudness. Itโs just the way the brain works. So I guess the clattering of cutlery etc would actually measure louder than we realise. Also sound gets quieter, aka decibels get lower, the further away you are from the source, in a similar wayโฆ when you double the distance from the source, you can subtract 6db. So a 90db noise 1 meter away from the source would only be 72db 8 meters away in the corridor for example. When you do decibel checks in your theatre, how far away do you measure the db volume?
