While I am not blind being disabled I really appreciate when disabled people are portrayed in the way Toph is.

2016-11-19 12:47:44 +0000 UTCEarthbenders commonly use the Hung Gar style whereas Toph is more Chu Gar Southern Praying Mantis style. So yep, her stance and the way she fights is slightly different. For what you said about the fighting choreography, they had an actual martial arts consultant (Sifu Kisu) help them with that. Before drawing each fighting scene, they would actually film Kisu performing various moves so they could basically draw it out. They were very dedicated to making sure a lot of aspects of ATLA were authentic. Even the Chinese writing you see is authentic! They had a cultural consultant (Dr. Siu-Leung Lee) handle all of the translation and calligraphy in the show, so when a character read something (like Katara reading that ransom letter in this episode), they were literally saying what was written down. God, just the amount of effort and dedication for authenticity in this show astounds me every time lol!
