Patreon Revamp!
Added 2025-02-03 14:25:19 +0000 UTCHello lovely Patrons!
I've done a revamp on the Patreon, principally to simplify things.
Simpler Tiers
Instead of like ten tiers, now there are just FIVE. $2; $5; $20; $50; $125
Changing Rewards That Didn't Feel Valuable
Early access for everyone! It used to only be for $15+ Patrons; now it's available to ALL paid patrons. Basically, because the subtitling and final edits can take such a varied amount of time I didn't feel like it was worth making that its own reward? Sometimes I can't give "early access" until like, a couple of days before the general release, so it felt unfair to charge $15 for it. So now everybody gets it, as and when I'm able to :) Also this way the $2 patrons, which is most of you, still get something as a thanks for signing up!
I'm not on Twitter or Facebook anymore, so the social media shout-outs will now be on Bluesky and Instagram.
The number of people who signed up to get a thank you card just on its own without a signed book was pretty low, and a lot of people in that tier declined mailed rewards anyway, so I just combined those two tiers :)
The 'you get to ask me a question that I'll answer on livestream' tier didn't seem valuable anymore because I'm pretty good about engaging with chat anyway on my streams? So you can just ask me questions there for free instead :) If you do ever have questions for me, tumblr is actually the place I'm most active in answering them!
The top reward used to be a guide to creating a YouTube channel, but the YouTube landscape has changed so much now that I honestly don't feel like that advice really adds much value to anyone genuinely wanting to start their own show? So I replaced it with a longform handwritten letter: new patrons who sign up at the top tier get a special thank you letter from me talking about what I'm up to with the show and just generally expressing my thanks in a more expanded way than a thank you card or an autograph.
Minimising Impact to Existing Patrons
I tried to structure the changes such that people who are already signed up wouldn't lose anything; I think the only thing you might notice is that if you were previously at the 'shout outs on socials' tier, the cutoff for that has now moved up slightly as a result of eliminating some of the less popular tiers. I calculate that a couple of hundred people will fall off the list because of that change. On the flipside, you do now get early access to episodes! But if you're really gutted about not being on the physical thank you lists then leave me a comment or shoot me a message and we'll see if we can figure something out.
Conclusion
That's it really! My contract with Nebula means I can't sell Patreon-exclusive merch so, that's about as much as I can do. We'll see how we get on and if necessary I'll make more adjustments as we go.
All the best,
Abi XXx

Is there any way to purchase the book (with inscription) separately from the Patreon tier? Especially if I wanted to give it as a gift, and made out to someone else?

2025-02-28 18:37:38 +0000 UTC(And hopefully, at some point, I can end up in a financial situation where I can comfortably support people whose work I appreciate on Patreon *and* Nebula and not stress out about this!)

2025-02-15 21:36:32 +0000 UTCThank you for this update! I had been wondering whether it made sense to stay a $15 patron (now that Nebula is the way to see episodes first), or if I should cancel on Patreon and put that money into a Nebula subscription. Being able to drop my Patreon level and put that spare money into Nebula works great! And I appreciate the continued transparency about things resulting from your contract with Nebula instead of leaving things to silly Internet speculation 😅

2025-02-13 22:11:34 +0000 UTCAs soon as I get a job and I am re-employed, you will be the 1st creator I will be giving my money to. Thank you for all that you do love!

2025-02-06 04:05:03 +0000 UTCFavor the idea of "more with less" for your videos. As incredible the production value, I enjoy watching them on a more consistent basis :) Looking forward to seeing what you have up your sleeve this year! God speed!

2025-02-06 01:10:45 +0000 UTCThat is a valid concern indeed. Also the server should be in the UK or Europe.

2025-02-04 13:02:11 +0000 UTCMaybe it's just because they're really toxic spaces? I myself don't use either pretty much because of that reason (edit; RE for Facebook and Twitter)

2025-02-04 11:43:42 +0000 UTCRe the Twitter & Facebook thing - can’t argue with quitting them, but seems odd to still be on Instagram if the purpose is to boycott Musk & Zuck? (Not that I can criticise, I still use IG myself also…) BSKy is good but will have to try Mastodon sometime.

2025-02-03 20:16:37 +0000 UTCEven without a proper mastodon account, just using Bridgy Fed to bridge the Bluesky account to Fediverse would help, I think.

2025-02-03 20:11:06 +0000 UTCThe irony being that I literally just upped my sub from 5 to 10 yesterday... (I guess I have to up it again now...)

2025-02-03 20:06:28 +0000 UTCYeah, 10 tiers is a lot... 5-6 is more manageable. 💖

2025-02-03 19:50:16 +0000 UTCI third the suggestion for Mastodon! You should be able to link your Bluesky account fairly easily. I'm MizFidd@beige.party, and we're all either queer or queer-allied.

2025-02-03 17:55:58 +0000 UTCPlenty of us over here holding out hope for a reward of "annual cocktail party" as the top tier reward, but we'll still support in the meantime anyway 😁👍🍸

2025-02-03 16:23:23 +0000 UTCI like your thinking, Abi, even if I'm only on here to support you and other amazing artists regardless of the perks 🥰

2025-02-03 16:18:48 +0000 UTCyeah people seem to be a lot more queer-friendly on Mastodon, assuming your on an instance with good moderation. but here comes the challenge, picking an instance for regular people isn't that hard, but when you have a strong online presence you can put strain on the moderation team, so a lot more thought needs to go into picking an instance and might need to message the mods first and so on.

2025-02-03 16:04:49 +0000 UTCHello Abi, Consider getting an account in Mastodon too. It has a lot of nice and less mainstream people :) And thank you for no longer being in Twitter or Facebook
