After the death of master, he awakened his hidden powers and became Super-Jiren. All that aside, It was never stated what his actual wish was. But if you read the manga, Jiren's wish was to revive his dead master, who'd never considered him his successor. It was not due to Jiren's strength, but rather his solitary nature, which prevented him from working with others. Like Kakashi from Naruto, Jiren's sensei emphasized teamwork, not individual strength. Hopefully after this tournanment, Jiren will start to acknowledge his teammates and rely on them more.
